Jake would kill me if he knew this picture was on the blog... But I wanted to give you a visual =)
Ol' Crip is Jakes new nick name at the house
So the past few weeks have been a little nuts =)
I wanted to give you a short version of it... I didn't want this to be too long of a post.
On September 14th, Jake was at work and stepped on 2 nails. He finished the job out and headed home. He was determined to head to the hunting club even though he knew his foot was swollen. I told him no, he needed to run either to a clinic and get a technous shot or run to the emergency room. He agreed and decided to go to Middle Creek Medical Center not to far from the house. After cleaning the wounds and getting shots and meds... he ended up not going to the hunting club, but straight back home.
The next 2 weeks resulted to more pain, more swelling , and more doctors visits. He visited a foot specialist and they ordered a Xray and MRI to see where the problem was taking place. They found that the nail had broken his bone and the infection was actually in the bone instead of directly on the nail wound.
Jake had surgery on Wednesday Oct. 3. He was at St.Vincents Hospital for 4 days. 4 longs days! He came home Saturday at lunch with a smile!
Although he had a smile we both knew this would be a slow healing process. The doctor sent him home with a PICC line to have IV antibiotics for a month. He gets the meds every 8 hours. Nurse Kate ( me) takes care of that =) its really not that bad, I think I am a good nurse. Jake has learned to give it himself, when I am not at home to do it. He also re-dresses his foot twice a day because the wound is open and is still leaking out the infection. He goes back to the doctor on Monday the 16th to the orthopedic doctor to check on the bone and see the healing of his foot. I believe the doctor may put him in therapy and a boot.
Please continue to keep Jake and I in your prayers. This can be very serious for Jake if he can not fight the infection off. Lords knows I don't want him back at the hospital. Kaleb and I would miss him again very much!
I wanted to say a Special Thanks to everyone who has been thinking about us! The texts, emails, calls and prayers have been very much appreciated!!
